Two Quotations to Contemplate this Thanksgiving Day
Fervor at the table and where we are all heading
This Thanksgiving Day I want to share two quotations. The first one might help you and your family avoid conflict at the festival table:
"No opinion should be held with fervor. No one holds with fervor that's 7×8 is 56, because it can be known that this is the case. Fervor is only necessary in commending an opinion which is doubtful or demonstrably false."
— Bertrand Russell, 1958
The second one is existential, reminding ourselves and the young people around us where we are all ultimately heading in this wondrous journey of life and how much we need others:
"There are only four kinds of people in this world: those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers."
— Rosalynn Carter, 1987
Happy Thanksgiving
